Tell them to disestablish Māori ward(s)!

These councils established Māori wards following the passing of Nanaia Mahuta's law in 2021 which removed the right for ratepayers to demand a referendum when councils proposed creating one or more Māori wards.These councils have had Māori wards since the 2022 local body elections. They have two choices:

  1. Disestablish now, with effect from 2025

  2. Referendum in 2025, with effect from 2028
