New Zealand’s planning laws decide where homes can be built, how infrastructure is delivered, how land is used, and how our environment is protected. These are decisions that affect every New Zealander which is why they must be governed by fair, neutral rules that apply equally to all.

Despite clear promises to end race-based policies in public law, the Government’s proposed Planning and Natural Environment Bills would embed ancestry-based decision-making throughout New Zealand’s planning system. They introduce prescriptive Treaty clauses, mandatory iwi consultation ahead of the public, and permanent recognition of co-governance arrangements that give some groups greater influence than others.

That is not fair planning and it is not equality before the law.

When planning rules are unequal, the whole system loses public trust. Development slows, costs rise, and New Zealand becomes more divided.

You do not need to oppose environmental protection to oppose unequal law and ypu do not need to oppose Māori interests to believe that public law should apply equally to everyone.
